Social Enterprise Greenhouse Names Constance Ferber Senior Director of Community & Economic Development

New role will enhance growth of strategic partnerships, programming, and outreach among local entrepreneurship and business community

PROVIDENCE, RI – October 1, 2023 – Social Enterprise Greenhouse (SEG), one of the state’s leading business support organizations, announced the promotion of Constance Ferber to the role of Senior Director of Community & Economic Development. The promotion is part of SEG’s broader strategy centered around its recent growth in outreach work, partnerships, and community presence all in an effort to pivot the organization’s approach to offer more custom, individualized support for today’s entrepreneurs.

“Exacerbated by the pandemic, it became clear to our team that there was increasing frustration and confusion around navigating the various offerings and resources of business support organizations, government agencies, and federal opportunities,” said Julie Owens, CEO, Social Enterprise Greenhouse. “Our team has taken this as an opportunity to act on these findings to meet the new demands in supporting the communities we serve. Constance is well poised to lead the next chapter of program and strategic development for our place-based work.”

“I’m thrilled to be stepping into this new, strategic role at SEG and be a part of an organization that is leading a renaissance in supporting businesses and entrepreneurs throughout the region,” said Ferber.

During her four years working with the team at SEG, Ferber has served the organization almost exclusively in the strategy and business development realm. Her previous experience includes a six year stint with Nonprofit New York – an organization that champions and strengthens nonprofits through capacity building and advocacy – where she served in similar capacities ultimately rising to the role of Knowledge Director.

SEG and Ferber now look ahead to executing informed and purposeful strategies and program development that will serve as the foundation of their operational pivot including:

  • Formalizing the referral process to remove redundancies and increase opportunities to collaborate among peer organizations and public agencies.
  • Outreach expansion with community leaders and partners to bring more targeted support to the businesses and entrepreneurs they support.
  • Development of a concierge service to keep businesses engaged, support resource navigation, and prioritize consistent engagement.
  • Expansion of SEG’s footprint in the Newport, Woonsocket, Pawtucket, and Central Falls communities through a physical presence as well as bolstering partnerships with pre-existing business support organizations.
  • Delivery of thoughtful, place-based needs in each community and development of tailored programming based on identified gaps among industries.
  • Development of a roster of business development advisors to be physically present to support businesses/entrepreneurs.
  • Increasing overall participation in SEG’s comprehensive menu of services and networks among entrepreneurs and businesses.
