Make an Impact as an Advisor
As SEG celebrates 25 years of investing in community-rooted impact, volunteer Advisors are at the heart of what makes this work possible. Advisors share their skills, perspective, and networks to help new and growing entrepreneurs navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and build sustainable, mission-driven businesses. SEG would not be where it is today without our advisors.
Advisors at SEG help bring a diversity of thought, perspective and experience to our work and those of our entrepreneurs. No previous experience in advising is needed. Generally, Advisors have at least 10 years experience in business, start-ups or non-profit management and have specific expertise in one of the following areas:
- Finance and Accounting
- Strategic planning
- Operations
- Marketing and Communications
- Business Development and Growth
- Technology, AI, Web Development
General Advisor
Lend your expertise in a one-on-one advising session, helping a social entrepreneur tackle a specific challenge, provide guidance, or review material. Examples of advising sessions include customer discovery help, partnership advice, strategic planning, website feedback, social media strategy, branding review, pitch prep and more.
Advisors commit to at least a 1 hour in-person session with an entrepreneur as matched by the Program Leads.
Financial Coach
Financial coaches meet with one or more entrepreneurs in the Accelerator program to help them develop and pressure test their three year financial projections. SEG financial templates are provided for those who may not already have developed financial projections. Financial coaches usually meet 5-6 hours with each venture they work with.
Office Hours Expert
Host monthly virtual office hours to provide insight in your area of expertise or industry and serve as a soundboard for entrepreneurs. This is a great way to support multiple ventures with flexible scheduling.
The time commitment is about 4-5 hours per month.
Impact Accelerator Coach
This is SEG’s most in-depth engagement, ideal for those who want to build a long-term relationship with a social entrepreneur. Work one-on-one with an established entrepreneur in our Impact Accelerator Program and guide them as they navigate a growth strategy to scale their venture. Coaches are matched by SEG with entrepreneurs based on the entrepreneur’s programmatic goals, coach availability, and fit to guide them on their journey.
Coaches collaborate with the entrepreneur to create their own virtual or in-person meeting schedules, meeting weekly or biweekly for 1-2 hours per session through the duration of formal classes, which run 12 weeks.
